Why We Have Dismantled Our 24/7 Telephone Counselling Platform
Yes, you read that right. Our 24/7 telephone counselling platform was not only commercially profitable but was also our core service when we started. So why did we step away from it?
Simply put, we believe that a 24/7 telephone counselling service does not provide a safe or effective environment to properly address most of the issues presented. It’s like opening an A&E department stocked only with plasters—well-intentioned, but inadequate.
We are also proud to have discontinued our 24/7 platform long before recent controversies and concerns surfaced around such services. Our decision is a testament to our commitment to ethical, high-quality care, ensuring that our practices uphold the highest standards of safety, effectiveness, and professional integrity.
The Rationale Behind This Decision
Misuse in Crisis Situations
Despite clear communication about the limitations of 24/7 helplines, individuals in acute crises sometimes turn to them when what they truly need is an emergency response. A phone conversation with a counsellor in these moments can inadvertently delay life-saving intervention from emergency services.
One-Off Calls Lack Therapeutic Depth
A standalone phone session, disconnected from structured short-term counselling, does not provide a safe or effective environment to address complex issues. Real therapeutic support requires continuity, structure, and a journey from beginning to end.
Safeguarding Risks in Audio-Only Sessions
Audio-only counselling presents risks that can compromise both safety and effectiveness. This is why we strongly advocate for video-based counselling over phone calls. Video sessions allow for:

- Non-verbal communication cues, helping therapists assess emotional state and safety concerns.
What We Offer Instead
Rather than a 24/7 helpline, we focus on rapid access to structured, video-based short-term counselling. Our approach ensures:
- Individuals are carefully matched with a counsellor suited to their needs.
- Sessions are part of a structured process that allows for real progress and resolution.
- Availability at flexible hours, including weekends, bank holidays (even New Year’s Eve), because we know life doesn’t follow a 9-to-5 schedule.
Why We No Longer Provide a Therapist Catalogue
We have moved away from displaying a public catalogue of therapists with photos and bios, and this decision is intentional.
Our therapist selection process is not a “A la carte” menu, it’s more like a pharmacy. Just as a pharmacist carefully prescribes medication based on a patient’s condition, we match individuals with a therapist based on their specific needs, expectations, and preferences.
This ensures:
✅ A more tailored and effective therapist-client match.
✅ A focus on expertise over appearance, removing unconscious bias from the selection process.
That said, we understand that therapy is built on connection and trust, and sometimes the match isn’t quite right. If an individual feels their assigned therapist isn’t the best fit, they are encouraged to let us know as early as possible, and we swiftly reassign them to a new counsellor to ensure a smooth and effective therapeutic experience.
Why We No Longer Offer a Mobile App
Instead of a mobile app, we provide each organisation with a dedicated, fully customisable webpage optimised for mobile use. This ensures:
- Highest cybersecurity standards for collecting and protecting personal data.
- Seamless access without adding unnecessary entry points that could pose security risks.
- All necessary resources and functionalities without redundant duplication.
From a data security perspective, adding a mobile app would do nothing more than mirror the webpage while introducing potential vulnerabilities. Our priority is security, simplicity, and efficiency.
